I just tested 3 6N1P tubes purchased from Jim McShane, known to be good, using the 6BQ7 test data. It sounded like the 'bass knob' was slightly turned up. Overall, sound was tighter and faster. All of the three dimensional spatial queues were apparent. Only the 6BQ7 can be used as a suitable substitute. If you use any of the aforementioned 6DJ8 tube types in circuit there is also the risk you will fry not only the tube but the front end circuitry as well.
